Unexpected discoveries

Going to and from a recce near Tunbridge Wells I took the train from Charing Cross and as we drew away across the bridge from Waterloo East I was amazed to see how far the Walkie Talkie and Cheese Grater buildings had progressed and the number of cranes that seem to littler the London skyline.

At Tunbridge I met designer Terence Woodgate who has recently launched a jewellery collection called Eiger, at Heals. We chatted about his work and his position as a Royal Designer for Industry and then about his passion for sky diving and base jumping. Something you wouldn’t have expected to find out about a man who designs comfortable sofas and subtle lighting.

Then on to Esher to see one of the showrooms of family run kitchen company Martin Moore where there were a number of the room sets that may provide the a backdrop for some shoots we’re planning for the new book which is underway with Jacqui Small. On the way from the station I walked by Sandown Park racecourse, the first time I had seen the famous home of horse racing, and apparently antique sales and shows.

And to round off the week a trip to Holland Park to Summerill & Bishop, the specialist kitchen shop owned by Bernadette Bishop and June Summerill. I arrived a little early so sat opposite the shop and drank a coffee in glorious sunshine. By the time I had reached the tube station on the way home, the rain had started and autumn seemed to have suddenly arrived.
