Tulips in Amsterdam

A day trip to Amsterdam means getting up at 4am, but as I was anxious not to miss the flight I woke at 1am and then again at 3am so decided to get up at 3.30 because another half an hour’s tossing and turning wouldn’t be worth the effort. I was a Victoria Station for the Gatwick Express by 4am so had a welcome paper cup of tea with the other wide eyed people waiting for the first trains of the day. The transition from train to north terminal and through security went smoothly and so did the flight and collection at the airport so we were with Kate Hume and her husband Francs van der Heijden by 10am with unpredicted sunshine flooding the rooms of their tall slim city house. Kate and Frans run their own interior design and product company and Kate has a fabulous range of contemporary glass that she creates under her own label.

The shoot went so well that photographer Darren Chung had time to nip out and get a few ‘location’ shots, and as the Hume/ van der Heijden house is just one block from the city centre and canal we thought that might make a good shot.
